A Powerful Music Tracker in Your Browser, Completely Free

A Powerful Music Tracker in Your Browser, Completely Free: "SkaleOnline4

Party like it’s 1991 – your browser’s invited. A full-blown music production tool has been directly ported from the desktop to the browser using Flash, modeled with a tracker-style interface for fast, precise music editing. (In fact, a tracker, thanks to speedy entry from a QWERTY keyboard, seems to me an ideal interface for browser music. Trust me – it looks arcane at first, but trackers can be extremely friendly music interfaces. Just be prepared to look like a total geek once you’ve worked it out, because it’ll look even more arcane to everyone else)

The resulting tool comes with all the modules you’ll need, and it’s completely free to use. There’s even an included sample library.

Now, the next time you’re stuck in an Internet cafe, you can compose a song.

Creator Ruben Ramos says this is the first tracker on the Web, and shares his development process with us:

The sourcecode of the application is the same than the desktop version, it’s C++. I used a research project from Adobe Labs to build my sources for the AVM2 (ActionScript Virtual Machine 2), which is the last virtual machine used in Flash. This way, I got a binary version as a .swf of my original desktop-based application.

I wrote some parts code for this version, but only a few. For example the graphic rendering: in the desktop version was using the graphic card acceleration; for this version I implemented a software renderer.

After it, I added some special features for this version. For example, I implemented a filesystem with remote access to allow the load of resources stored on the server. With this feature songs and samples can be loaded from the webserver, which is good to have a base sample library available on the server.

Daft Punk’s Tron soundtrack: release date, artwork and other details

Daft Punk’s Tron soundtrack: release date, artwork and other details: "

Daft Punk‘s soundtrack for TRON: Legacy will be officially released on November 22 via Walt Disney Records.

Its release on CD, deluxe CD and digital download heralds that of the film itself: it’s set to open in the UK on Friday 17 December. The largely electonic score – which leaked onto the web earlier this year – was composed, performed and produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, with contributions from a 100-strong orchestra recorded at Air Studios in London.

“It’s a new direction for them that they’re really excited about,” said Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, “And it’s so tied into the film because we developed them both together…”

Disney have just launched an interactive website for the soundtrack over at tronsoundtrack.com, where you can pre-order the digital and deluxe editions of the album. The deluxe edition is comprised of the album on CD and high-quality download, along with an exclusive Daft Punk Tron poster and a bonus download of a new track that’s not on the CD. The pre-order digital edition also boasts the bonus track.

Blue Sky Black Death – Coup de Grace

Blue Sky Black Death – Coup de Grace: "

Just received a new mix from SF based instrumental hip-hop production duo Blue Sky Black Death. This one’s filled w/ some really beautiful, shoegaze-influenced downtempo beats. Glad to see these two are still at it, they one of the first hip-hop acts that bridged the gap between my taste in electronic and beats when I was listening to “A Heap of Broken Images” years back. Hoping to see this guys start doing more touring, seems like they’d be able to do really interesting live sets. Continue on for more info, tracklist, and download link…

BSBD an accomplished West Coast production duo has mastered the art of collaboration. Their sound transforms the raw into the refined through technically building layers that exceed the boundaries of any one particular musical genre. Young God and Kingston make up the duo, and acquire additional people to help construct the synthesis of instrumental variety. Often a single track will involve a violin, cello, keyboard, and guitar mixed with live vocals and abstract samplings. Most of their reputation comes from their accomplishments with various hip hop collaborators (Jean Grae, Crooked-I, Hell Razah, the late Guru, Ill Bill, to name but a few). Each album surpasses the next in expectation thus creating surprise.

BSBD has been recieved praise from such publications as Spin, URB, Rock Sound, XLR8R (naming “Late Night Cinema” as: “The Best Instrumental Hip Hop album of 2008. Unlike any other artist around right now”), Itunes featured artist, Imeem featured artist, ReUp magazine, Filter Magazine, Vapors Magazine, Remix Magazine, Pop Matters, amongst others, and their music has led them to receive worldwide recognition.

Their most recent highly acclaimed album “Slow Burning Lights” matches BSBD with phenomenon Yes Alexander. Her spine numbing vocals and somber lyrics meld flawlessly amongst BSBD’s quixotic rhythms. BSBD has redefined hip hop through their kaleidoscopic perception of music as a landscape; music as a dimension to construct and build upwards and out. Their name borrowed from the skydiving term, beauty before death, mirrors their longevity and ability to bring back to life, dead and forgotten dimensions.

There’s no artifice behind BSBD, as will be heard with “Third Party,” which is set to drop September 7, 2010 and will be BSBD’s 10th album released within a 4-year-span. “Third Party” pairs BSBD with songwriter Alexander Chen of Boy in Static, and most recently The Consulate General. The songs draw from a span of inspiration, from 80′s pop melodies to modern indie rock experimentation. The album will shake birds out of the sky

Introducing Montgomery Clunk

Introducing Montgomery Clunk: "

Montgomery Clunk is another youngster hailing from the Eastern parts of Europe, this time Bucharest, Romania. He embraces so many styles of electronic music it is hard to believe it makes sense eventually. However, it does. Starting from Hip Hop and Dubstep, you can find Ambient and classic Electronica as well as a neat Pop edge and a certain leaning toward progressive songwriting.

You probably never heard about him till now, but once again GIMME5 helps you discovering what's next. The exclusive "You Neon Knight" is hosted on their website and it's available for free download!

...this is just the beginning.

Cult South African house track ‘Casablanca’ to finally see release

Cult South African house track ‘Casablanca’ to finally see release: "

If you read this week’s New Album Round-up, you’ll have seen us mention Township Funk, a new compilation of South African dance music.

Due for release next month on Newstate, the comp comes mixed by South Africa’s DJ QNess, and features – alongside, obviously, Mujava’s kwaito anthem ‘Township Funk’ – DJ Fresca and Kudokelem’s brilliant ‘Bring out the Worst in Me’, Mujava’s anthemtic ‘Mugwanti’, DJ Storm and more. But the personal highlight for us, is Mzo Bullet’s ‘Casablanca’, arguably the cult South African house dub, never released on vinyl, and publically adored by Actress and countless more.

So we’re very excited about the fact that, along with releasing Township Funk, new state will be releasing ‘Casblanca’ as a single, backed – so we hear – by a remix from Hot City. Release date on that is unconfirmed, but Township Funk is due out on October 25.

You can listen to ‘Casablanca’ below:

Mux Mool – Klipkast #5

Mux Mool – Klipkast #5: "

Mux Mool just dropped (I believe) his first official mix ever for the fine folks over at Klipm0de. Mas informacion despues del saltar

This next installation of our klipkast family guestmix series comes from Ghostly International’s Mux Mool. Aside from being an incredible dude, he also likes sodapop. In his spare time he enjoys bolstering his animated-gif collection, playing Secret of Mana, and drawing boobies. These are a few of his favorite things.

Be sure to kop his new EP on Ghostly International titled, “Wax Rose Saturday EP”

http://ghostly.com/releases/wax-rose-saturday-ep

This features a completely new track titled “Valley Girls”, a remux of “Wax Rose Saturday”, and remixes from Free The Robots, Devonwho, Shigeto, Alex B, Paul White, and Daso. Dope.

Onto the mixxx…

We let him explain his mix in his own words.

“This mix starts nerdy, gets nerdier, goes classic for a sec, and then comes back to general vibe. My focus on this is to showcase some other things I been doing that either aren’t released or won’t be released for a while, and in some cases not even finished. That, and I included some little clips of beats that always get stuck in my head. I think I should just add that I think Necro is an awful human being, but I’ve always liked that beat. If you’ve not heard Pete Rock, you should google that. Also, check out my super homie Charles Treeshttp://www.myspace.com/charlestrees and my friends from back home and all their super productions Famfeud http://www.myspace.com/famfeud I learned a lot about making beats from listening to that Famfeud CD.” – Mux Mool
